  • Easy Air Fryer Ribeye Steak With Cilantro Garlic Sauce

I cooked this juicy steak in my air fryer. Honestly, I am still flabbergasted at how incredible this air fryer rib eye steak turned out.

If you haven't tried cooking ribeyes in your air fryer, I strongly recommend you give it a go. You will enjoy a delicious and perfect steak in a matter of minutes!

Why You Will Love Cooking Ribeye Steak In Your Air Fryer

You will absolutely adore cooking ribeye steak in your air fryer because:

  • Your steak will turn out moist and juicy
  • You will enjoy a restaurant-quality steak crafted by yourself!
  • It's super quick! You'll need about 30 minutes to allow the steaks to come to room temperature. But after that, it is roughly 10 minutes of cooking time to cook the steaks in your air fryer (plus a little resting time)
  • You will have an easy clean-up! No more splatters of oil all over your stovetop to clean and no pans to scrub down
  • It's fun! If you love experimenting with new air fryer recipes, then you will enjoy the process of cooking the perfect steak in your air fryer!

I served mine with a zesty cilantro garlic sauce, which complements the steak perfectly.

So, allow me to tell you what you will need to make a juicy ribeye steak in your air fryer!

Ingredients and Items You Will Need For This Recipe

It goes without saying that you will need an air fryer. The air fryer that I use is a GoWise 7-Quart Electric Air Fryer, which is quickly becoming my favorite kitchen appliance.

Please be aware that air fryers do differ in their performance according to the air fryer brand. Therefore you may need to tweak the instructions you find here just a bit to get the results that you desire.

I also highly recommend using a meat thermometer for best results. The thermometer that I use is by MEATER.

A ribeye steak on a white plate in the background and a hand holding a Meater thermometer in the foreground.
MEATER Meat Thermometer is incredible!

The MEATER Meat Thermometer is a wireless blue tooth enabled thermometer which I now find indispensable. You can set your desired temperature using the MEATER app and it will tell you when your food is ready.

If you don't have a MEATER thermometer, then you can use a digital meat thermometer instead.

In addition to these items, you will need the following ingredients:

  • Ribeye steak - select a steak between 0.75 lb - 1 lb, and around 1 inch thick
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic
Bottle of olive oil, bunch of cilantro, 4 cloves of garlic and bottles of salt and pepper.

Aside from the cilantro garlic sauce, we are simply seasoning with salt and pepper which will allow the tremendous flavor of the steak to shine through.

These simple ingredients will combine to enable you to enjoy a fantastic steak dinner!

The Best Level Of Doneness For Ribeye Steak

Medium-rare (130F-139F) is typically considered to be the best level of doneness for ribeye steak. This will give you the best flavor and result in an incredibly juicy steak.

The instructions provided here aim to provide the information you need to craft a beautiful medium-rare ribeye steak with a target internal temperature of 135F.

If you use the MEATER app, you will be able to see the stages of cooking as seen below in this collage (4 different screenshots) from my phone.

A panel which shows screenshots of different phases in cooking a ribeye steak using a Meater Thermometer.

As you can see in the graphic, we actually want to remove the steak from the air fryer when the internal temperature reaches around 128F. This is because you will need to allow the steak to rest. During resting, the temperature will continue to rise until it reaches our target temperature of 135F.

Perfect Air Fryer Steak Instructions

Remove your steak from the refrigerator. Allow around 30 minutes to come to room temperature.

Now let's make the zingy cilantro garlic sauce.

To make the zingy cilantro garlic sauce, combine garlic, cilantro, and olive oil in a food processor. Process just a few seconds until you get a lovely sauce. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Cilantro garlic sauce in a glass bowl.

You can remove the stems from the cilantro before processing, or include some of the stems if you like. Please adjust the garlic to suit your level of love for garlic. Salt and pepper should be added to your tastes. Set the sauce aside in a small bowl for now.

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Then use a baster to baste some olive oil to the front and the back of the steak.

Season the front and the back of the steak liberally with salt and pepper.

Now, preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees f. Our intention is to air fry the steak at this temperature for around a cook time of 10 minutes, flipping half way through. This is for a medium-rare steak, with a target internal temperature of 135F.

Insert the MEATER Thermometer if using, into your steak according to the MEATER instructions.

Place the steak in your air fryer basket once it has been preheated to 400 degrees f. It's not recommended to use parchment paper as it might impede the hot air flow. So, you can place the steak(s) directly into the air fryer basket.

If you are cooking more than one steak, the best way is to be sure to place the steaks in a single layer and do not allow them to overlap.

Set the air fryer to cook for 5 minutes and start the air fryer.

Flip the steak after 5 minutes in the air fryer. If you have a digital thermometer, go ahead and check the internal temperature of the steak at this time.

When To Remove The Ribeye From The Air Fryer

Remember that we want to remove the ribeye when the internal temperature reaches around 125F.

Set the air fryer to cook another 5 minutes. However, the most important thing is to adjust your time as needed according to what your thermometer reads.

If you are using the MEATER app, it will tell you when to remove the steak.

Using a digital thermometer may require you to check the temperature a few times when the ribeye is cooking. It's perfectly fine to open up the air fryer from time to time and check the temperature of the steak. Just be aware that you will lose some heat each time you open the air fryer and will extend the length of cooking time required.

Remove the steak when the internal temperature reaches 125F - 128F, and allow it to rest for a few minutes. The temperature will continue to rise while resting and should reach our target temperature of 135F in a few minutes.

FAQ

What is my pro tip for the perfect ribeye steak from the air fryer?

My pro tip(s) would be to cook the steak medium-rare, and use the MEATER Meat Thermometer. Honestly using this thermometer will easily help you get the perfect results!

What if my steak is a different size or thickness to the one recommended in this recipe?

I recommend selecting a 1" thick steak for this recipe. If you select a thinner steak, then you may need to adjust the time down from the recommended time of 10 minutes to achieve a medium-rare steak. A thicker steak may require you to adjust the time up from 10 minutes for medium-rare. Most importantly, aim to remove your steak from the air fryer when the internal temperature is between 125F and 128F for best results.

How can I store leftover steak?

In the unlikely event you have any leftover steak, store it in an airtight container and place it in your refrigerator. It's best enjoyed within a couple of days.

What other seasonings or sauces could I use with ribeye steak?

I like to season ribeye simply with salt and pepper to let the flavor of the steak shine through. However, you could also add garlic powder or onion powder to the salt and pepper if you like. Montreal Steak Seasoning is another good option. Some classic A1 Steak Sauce also would be nice!

Notes

This recipe is written with a medium-rare steak in mind, with a target internal temperature of 135F.  To achieve this we actually want to remove the steak from the air fryer when the internal temperature reaches around 128F. This is because you will need to allow the steak to rest. During resting, the temperature will continue to rise until it reaches our target temperature of 135F.
It's highly recommended to use a thermometer to ensure success with this recipe.  The best one to use is the MEATER Meat Thermometer, which tells you when to remove the steak from the air fryer.
You can also use a digital thermometer. Using a digital thermometer may require you to check the temperature a few times when the ribeye is cooking. It's perfectly fine to open up the air fryer from time to time and check the temperature of the steak. Just be aware that you will lose some heat each time you open the air fryer and will extend the length of cooking time required.
Have fun cooking up the BEST Ribeye in your air fryer!
