Oven Cooked Ribs...Low and Slow

I reside in Texas, and here we love our grills. My grill is awesome, however, I often find myself desiring baby back pork ribs that are delicious but don't require a lot of hands on work.

Therefore oven to the rescue! You can easily get the most insanely delicious, tender, fall-off-the bone pork baby back ribs by cooking them in the oven, low and slow.

Quite simply all you need is a 3 pound rack of baby back ribs, seasoned with your favorite dry rub, and 4 hrs in a 275F oven will give you the most fabulous ribs!

My Favorite Dry Rubs!

I recently cooked up some baby backs using my favorite dry rubs. One I discovered on a trip to Memphis, TN. The other is from master griller Steven Raichlen, bestselling author of "How to Grill: The Complete Illustrated Book of Barbecue Techniques," one of my favorite recipe books!

Central BBQ

Central BBQ is THE PLACE to go for the BEST Memphis Style BBQ! Memphis BBQ is known for its dry rubs. The meat of choice is typically pork and it is smoked slowly in pits to produce incredible ribs with amazing flavor.

I picked up a Jerk Seasoning Dry Rub when we visited Central BBQ.

Central BBQ Jerk Seasoning

This seasoning is THE BOMB. If you like Jerk Seasoning, you will LOVE this! It's slightly spicy, and PERFECT for baby backs!

I served the ribs with just this dry rub (no "wet sauce") and they were TO DIE FOR!

If you are interested in purchasing the Jerk Seasoning, MemphisFlavor.com sells it, along with other Central BBQ rubs and sauces. At Central BBQ, the Jerk Seasoning is famously used to season their slow smoked chicken wings. MemphisFlavor.com also recommends using it to season fries.

Certainly, I hope you will treat yourself to this amazing Jerk Seasoning Dry Rub!

Steven Raichlen's Dry Rub

Further, Master Griller Steven Raichlen also has a FANTASTIC recipe for a dry rub which you can make up yourself! I gifted this rub to friends and family this last Christmas and below you can see the ribs I made with this dry rub.

You can get the recipe for Raichlen's Rub #1 here. I simply slathered this rub on the ribs, cooked low and slow in the oven, and was rewarded with the most tender, delicious, and fall apart ribs...again, no barbecue sauce required. 🙂

Let's Do This!

So, are you ready for the easiest and most delicious baby backs ever? Let's do this!

  • Get your 3 lb rack of baby back ribs
  • Remove the membrane (click here for a lesson on how to do this!)
  • Rinse and pat dry.
  • Slather on your dry rub of choice! Consider Central BBQ Jerk Seasoning, Raichlen's Rub #1, or your Dry Rub of choice!
  • Cook low and slow for 4 hrs (tightly wrapped in foil) in a 275F heated oven

Honestly, that's it! But if you have a preference for "wet" ribs, by all means add a wet sauce once the ribs are finished cooking. However, consider trying "dry" fresh from the oven after 4 hrs of low and slow cooking. I'm pretty confident your palate will be satisfied. 🙂

In conclusion, I hope that you will enjoy some amazing baby backs from the oven soon!

Notes

You will have some drippings from the ribs after cooking.  I love to pour a little bit of this over the ribs prior to serving.
If you prefer a wet barbecue, you could add some barbecue sauce and place the ribs under the broiler for a bit.  However, please consider eating them dry they are delicious!!
Serving suggestion:  baked or mashed potatoes!
Bon appetit!!
