Are you ready for your taste buds to go zing?! Then try this absolutely delicious Tilapia with Hot Yuzu Sauce!

What is Yuzu?

Yuzu is one of the foods listed in the 1,000 Foods To Eat Before You Die book. Yuzu is a citrus fruit that is mainly cultivated in Korea, China, and Japan. Nowadays it is also cultivated in California.

This citrus is very sour! Therefore it's the juice and the rind that are used in cooking and the fruit is not normally eaten like you would an orange or tangerine. It's got a great tartness to it, and so citrusy with hints of lemon, lime, and grapefruit. It also has a sharp aroma.

I found this yuzu on a trip to Japan, but it wasn't easy! If you'd like to learn more about this amazing citrus fruit, please visit "Yuzu - 1,000 Foods to Eat Project."

Yuzu

In the United States, where I am based, it's generally easiest to get the taste of yuzu in different sauces, juices, or flavored foods that are available. You can click here to see a varied selection of yuzu flavored items on Amazon.

Hot Yuzu Sauce

Hot Yuzu Sauce

I picked up this Hot Yuzu Sauce from my local grocery store. This particular sauce comes from Miyazaki, Japan. And I can vouch that it is a lively hot sauce!

One of the recommendations on the bottle is to serve with light fish, so I decided to try it with pan fried tilapia. It was delicious!

tilapia, hot yuzu sauce, olive oil, salt, pepper, nanami togarashi

All you need for a delicious and healthy light meal is tilapia, olive oil, salt, pepper, and Hot Yuzu Sauce.

If you are interested in trying the Hot Yuzu Sauce that I used, you can order it from JapanGoldUSA.com or from Amazon.

Also it seems there is one made by Trader Joe's and sold here on Amazon that could also be used as a substitute. When I run out of the Hot Yuzu Sauce that I have I will try the Trader Joe's Yuzu Hot Sauce!

I also added some Nanami Togarashi (Japanese 7 spice) to my tilapia because I love the extra spice and color that it adds. However, you can omit this if you don't have it handy.

Nanami Togarashi

This meal cooks up in a flash! Healthy, delicious, zinging taste buds...perfect for a quick and yummy meal!

Serve this with rice and garnished with lots of green onions!  You can be as generous or as stingy as you like with the Hot Yuzu Sauce!  Be sure to inhale its aroma and really savor the flavor of the sauce.  Enjoy this taste of yuzu, one of foods listed in the the 1,000 Foods To Eat Before You Die book by Mimi Sheraton! I hope you will give this a try!
